Everything in this Universe is composed of a mass of constantly moving energy. Thus everything in this planet is interconnected by the vibrations of life-force energy which flows between them. This means that our home, too, is composed of energy. It is not separate from us, and like us has an evolving consciousness with which we can communicate.
The vibrations found in home can be life-suppressing or life-enhancing. Rudolph Steiner, an Austrian philosopher and founder of Anthroposophical medicine, believed that if people could be surrounded by living architectural forms and spaces, it would have a beneficial effect on their mental and physical health.
The existence of life-force energy has been known from ancient times and had many different names in the teachings of all major religions.Christians refer to this spiritual force as ‘The Holy Ghost’, while the Hindus call this primal energy as ‘Prana’, which is attracted by and circulated through a series of energy centers in our being known as chakras.
The Chinese regard the Cosmos as being pervaded by ch’í (qi) which connects the Universe, the Earth and our bodies through a network of lines. In the Earth, this network of energy lines are known as ‘Laylines’, while in the body they are referred to as ‘Meridians’.
The Taoist art of Feng Shui, which literally means ‘wind and water’, is an ancient system of placement of buildings and furniture which encourages the natural flow of vital energy through the house, thus attracting good fortune, health and happiness. Geomancy, which is now becoming popular, is a modern equivalent of Feng Shui, and uses dowsing to locate energetic disturbances in the ground and in buildings.
Whatever the name given to it, it is generally agreed that when this this life-force energy flows harmoniously through us, connecting us to the Earth, the air, each other and the other Cosmic forces, we are sustained in perfect health.
